2023 Color of the Year: A Look into the Year Ahead

Color of the Year 2023

2023 Color of the Year. The Color of the Year is a trend that is predicted by companies to forecast the colors for the upcoming year. This will inevitably be seen in fashion, home décor, and design trends.

It is a tradition that has been going on for more than 20 years. The Pantone Color Institute, a consulting service, releases the annual Color of the Year to help designers and manufacturers in the fashion industry with their color selection.

It often influences what colors are popular and trending for designers, clothing, home décor, and other products.

The history of the Color of the Year

Keeping up with trends can be really tough. One company that’s been doing it for 20+ years is Pantone. They’ve named a Color of the Year more than two decades in a row.

This allows for industries such as fashion, art, and even architecture to be influenced by these colors.

The Pantone Color of the Year is a trendsetter!

After introducing the concept, the Pantone Color Institute is quickly becoming the leader in matters relating to color. Pantone has predicted new colors that have revolutionized how brands and designers can make the most of colors.

The color of the year has been a concept since 2000, with Pantone announcing Cerulean Blue for that year. Cerulean is a deep shade of blue that seems to mimic the color of the sky on a serene day. It suggested that consumers will seek peace in the year 2000.

Representatives from various countries’ color standards groups meet in secret twice a year and after two days of presentations and debate, they choose the new color for the following year. After this meeting, the Color of the Year will be published in Pantone View.

In 2016, Pantone chose both Rose Quartz and Serenity for their Color of the Year. In 2021, they chose Ultimate Grey and Illuminating.

Pantone continues to champion its tradition of selecting a single color each year and telling the world what would influence everything the next year. It is an internationally recognized design color system that is often used as a source of inspiration and guidance by artists and designers.

How the color is chosen

The Color of the Year isn’t randomly chosen from millions of RGB values. Instead, it is selected based on a number of complex factors that assess trends in color-conscious industries like fashion, design, marketing, beauty, and social media.

The annual selection is determined by a panel of analysts that looks at trends in multiple industries and looks for patterns in order to predict what the design trend will be the next year.

The committee then analyzes these global trends and predicts what the next big color trend will be. This helps brands through their year’s business.

Pantone’s announcement for the year has become something of a pop culture sensation. This includes commanding worldwide attention and delivering a message to people who are very passionate about colors.

The difference between Pantone colors

The Pantone Matching System (PMS) takes precision to a whole new level with about 1867 shades of color, making it a reliable way to get the right shade for a project. These shades range from blue, green, and turquoise to every other color you could imagine.

How can you tell the difference between Pantone colors?

Pantone colors are assigned a 3 or 4-digit identification number as well as the letters U, C, or M. These alphabetical characters indicate the type of paper stock: “uncoated”, “coated” or “matte”. This makes things easier for users to see what their chosen one would look like on them.
